Professional Responsibilities
The teacher demonstrates ethical standards and professionalism by engaging in accurate reflection, by monitoring student progress using data, by communicating appropriately with families, and by displaying effective relationships with colleagues, and by growing and developing professionally.
4a. Reflecting on Teaching and Student Learning.
It is my third full year teaching, and I know I still have a lot to learn. I referred to Year One as my Learning Year; Year Two has become my Building Year. What I mean is that I'd like to build my skills, build my library, build my resources. I have been reaching out to more teachers so as to get more students into the library and to start teaching more and different lessons. As I reflect on the lessons I have taught so far this year, I know I can do more with technology so that kids are making the material meaningful for themselves. I also know I need to improve in the area of checking for understanding when actually teaching. With every collaborative lesson, especially the new ones, I have a reflective discussion with the classroom teachers - it is important to make note of what worked, what did not work, and what could be improved. These discussions are invaluable when planning future lessons. Overall though, I believe I have a strong and respectful rapport with the students, faculty and staff, and administration of Warrior Run. |
4b. Maintaining Accurate Records.
- Library Circulation: patron records are maintained using Follett Destiny, our library management system.
- Library Curriculum: student records are maintained using Noodle Tools through an administrator account.
4c. Communicating with Families.
For Gifted students, communication with families occurs as often as necessarily, but primarily during annual GIEP evaluation meetings.

4f. Showing Professionalism.
As a high school librarian, I often say "flexibility" and "collaboration" are my middle names - it is these attributes that make me good at my job. I work with everyone as often as I can, teachers and students alike. For teachers, I look for ways to collaborate, to help them deliver or update their lessons, to get their classes into the library, or to work with educational technology. For students, I support them in all their endeavors, academic or otherwise. I will always do my best to help with anything, and if I am unable to help, I will find them someone who can.
