Public Service Announcements
This spring, I have worked extensively with English 9 Honors on their persuasive research essays. Once their papers were completed, I worked with the students to turn their persuasive essays into Public Service Announcements, or PSAs. They used the topic of their essay, along with persuasive techniques and pieces of research, to create a PSA using Animoto or WeVideo. This example shows evidence of 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, and 3e; my parts are highlighted under colored headings.

Prior to the lesson, Mr. Smith (substitute for Mrs. Eisenhuth) and I worked with the students research and write persuasive essays.
For the lesson, I taught the students:
For the assignment, the students spent a week in the library working independently on their PSAs. When they were finished, students presented their videos to the class. During presentations, students completed peer evaluations. (Students were numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4 -- when a "1" presented, the other "1s" completed peer evaluations; when a "2" presented, the other "2s" completed peer evaluations, and so on.) After presentations, the whole group answered follow up questions.
Throughout the entire project,

For the lesson, I taught the students:
- definition and elements of PSAs
- persuasive techniques used in PSAs
- how to translate persuasive essays into PSAs

Throughout the entire project,
- Mr. Smith and I communicated with the students about their project and progress. Google Classroom came in handy for this. (3a)
- I used questioning and discussion techniques when delivering content on PSA creation. (3b)
- Students were engaged in learning - they chose their own topics and created their own PSAs based on the message and audience they wanted to connect. (3c)
- Assessments informed instruction in the sense that any questions or moments of confusion led to the next steps. I adjusted any instruction necessary to meet the students' needs. Students completed peer evaluations during presentations, and the whole-group questions following presentations led to interesting points made about PSAs and their respective topics. (3d)
- As is true in every lesson I teach, I demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness. For example, the project was assigned without a due date, since we did not know how quickly the students would progress. This was communicated to the students, who did not delay in getting to work, and then easily accepted a deadline once it was given. (3e)
- Mr. Smith and I planned together and reflected on our teaching.
