For the project, we explained
- the writing component, and
- the multimedia component.
For the assignment, the students spent a week in the library working independently on their projects.
- They conducted research using resourced within and connected to library.
- Based on their perspectives on their chosen topics, they wrote letters incorporating their research.
- They created multimedia projects to accompany their letters.
- They participated in a peer review for both components of the project.
- They presented their projects and sent them to their audiences.
Throughout the entire project,
- Mrs. Swartz and I communicated with the students about their project and progress. Google Classroom came in handy for this. (3a)
- I used questioning and discussion techniques when delivering content on PSA creation. (3b)
- Students were engaged in learning - they chose their own topics and created their own PSAs based on the message and audience they wanted to connect. (3c)
- Assessments informed instruction in the sense that any questions or moments of confusion led to the next steps. I adjusted any instruction necessary to meet the students' needs. Students completed peer evaluations during presentations, and the whole-group questions following presentations led to interesting points made about their respective topics. (3d)
- As is true in every lesson I teach, I demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness. For example, the project was assigned with a flexible due date, since we did not know how quickly the students would progress. This was communicated to the students, who did not delay in getting to work, and then easily accepted a deadline once it was given. (3e)
- Mrs. Swartz and I planned together and reflected on our teaching.
